The cover of the Journal of the American Dental Association in October 2016 features a prototype mobile application that will assist in managing dental emergencies.
Their research shows evidence that dental emergencies are likely to occur when preferred care is less accessible, such as while on vacation. Further complicating things, often there are communication barriers or language barriers if the emergency occurs out of the country.
The app that is in development guides the patient through a series of questions that will capture meaningful information through smartphone functions, including taking photos. Participants were able to complete the test report within 4 minutes.
Research conclusion was that patients can use their phones to transmit clinical data to their dentist or oral surgeon, providing high resolution images that can help prepare for urgent treatment, or to assist in finding resources.
We are staying tuned for the launch of this helpful app!
